Frattini, Gianfranco

Frattini, Gianfranco (1926-2004) – An impressive good proportioned desk (model 530) in Italian walnut veneer designed in 1957 by Gianfranco Frattini and executed by Bernini. He belonged to the generation of architects and designers who gave the impulse to the design movement at the end of the ’50 s. After earning his degree in architecture at the Politechnico de Milano in 1953 he started his own practice. His teacher and mentor was Gio Ponti. Frattini was an industrial designer ‘avant la lettre’ and collaborated, amongst many others, with Cassina, Bernini, and for lighting designs with Artemide. In 1956 he co-founded the ‘Associazione per il disegno industriale’.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      The desk has two drawers and the storage unit on top consists of, on the right of three vertical placed compartment shelves, and on the left side two compartment shelves and three small drawers. It closes with with two tambour doors. It has been restored and is in very good condition. The keys have been renewed. Measurements: Height: 95 cms. Width: 130 cms. Depth: 80 cms.
