Joosstens, Martin

Joosstens, Martin (1847-1926) – Up until now the only thing known about Joosstens is that he was a frame maker, gilder and a restorer of paintings in The Hague. But best and most known for the execution of mirrors designed by Jan Toorop (1858-1928) as the (sold) Toorop mirror shown here. The Joosstens mirror is executed in so called incrusted pâte and has a symbolic, and gilded, decoration of peacocks. It has a large format and measures 1.10 m. in height and 67 cms. in width.
